Disappearance of Edgard Pisani: Groupe de Bruges honors its founder
Paris, 23rd June 2016 - Founder of Groupe de Bruges Edgard Pisani passed away last Monday 20 June at the age of 97 years. Groupe de Bruges wishes to express their deepest sadness to lose the last designer of the Common Agricultural Policy set up in 1962.
Groupe de Bruges owes very much to Edgard Pisani, as he has been the first to call for opening the public debate on the European agricultural policy in the middle of the 90's.
At that time, he was fully aware that European agriculture was no longer aligned with society's demands and he has engaged in a collective thinking towards a new agricultural modernity, based on global solidarity, food security, natural resources protection, jobs creation and reduction of social gaps. He used to say about agriculture that: 'It's the oldest of our political issues'.
Europe has lost a great man who was convinced by Europeanism and the need to pool resources for Common Agricultural Policy. With deep emotion, president of the Bruges Group Samuel Féret pays his tribute to this visionary, without whom the European agriculture would not be what it is today.
